The Origin: In the year of 20XX, darkness befell the world at the appearance of the first of many wormholes (later to be classified as gates). These enigmatic phenomenons spawned countless monsters, throwing humanity as it was once known into chaos. This event is seen differently by each person; some call it the inevitable Judgement Day, others say it was the wrath of the gods in response to human arrogance. Yet when all hope seemed to be lost, a ray of light began to flicker for the perseverence of humankind —— the birth of the Anchors.The Anchors: The generation of children born into the aftermath of the gates‘ emergence began to show signs of supernatural abilities. For the first time in years, humanity finally found a way to fight back against the monsters that threatened to eradicate them. Many religious groups believe this to be a sign of mercy from a higher power, yet scientific research has not yielded a result in determining the origin of this miracle. Slowly, cities were rebuild, and a new world order was established, creating five megacities amidst the ruins of old.The Regions: Despite the birth of the Anchors, most parts of the world had become uninhabitable. The remaining population thus moved into areas that posed smaller threats of gate activity, creating the five regions of the world as it is known today: Acheron, Cocythus, Lethe, Phlegethon, and Stygia. Named after the mythological rivers of hell, they symbolize the way humanity navigated through this apocalyptic event as a relentless stream that persists in any climate. Our region, Stygia, was once part of a continent called "Europa".Classifications: As time passed, it became clear that not all children were born to become Anchors, and not all abilities were equally valuable in the fight against the gates‘ spawns. Therefore, we established a grading system to determine the power level of each awakened Anchor, grading them on a scale from C to S. Anchors make up about 20% of the population in each region, and 60% of them are C-Grade. B-Grades make up for 30%, while A-Grade make up about 10%. S-Grades are incredibly rare, determined to be 0,0025%. Currently, there are five S-Grade Anchors in Stygia.
